Greg Ybarra is a native Arizonan who has been a working as a professional musician for the past 15 years. He studied music at Pima Community College and the University of Arizona in Tucson and at Arizona State University in Phoenix as a jazz performance major. In 1993, he joined the Army Band and has been working as a free lance musician in his off time ever since; he’s doubled as musical director and arranger for numerous groups throughout the United States and South Korea. His list of assignments include: Fort Meade Maryland, Camp Red Cloud South Korea, Fort Hood Texas, Fort Jackson South Carolina, Phoenix Recruiting Battalion Phoenix Arizona, and Fort Huachuca Arizona. Greg's primary musical focus in civilian organizations has been in Latin Jazz, Salsa and Meringue. Groups he has performed with include: “Impacto Latino” out of Baltimore MD, “Orqestra Kaliente” out of Spartanburg SC, “SABOR!: the Latin Jazz Orchestra” out of Columbia SC, and “Orquesta Esencia” in South Korea. Greg has also performed with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, the Sierra Vista Symphony Orchestra and the Seoul National Symphony Orchestra Choir. He has performed solo work and has written numerous arrangements plus original compositions for the Army Band which have been featured on several CD’s. Greg is currently stationed with the 36th Army Band at Fort Huachuca, Arizona where he serves as Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, arranger and trumpet player for the Jazz Combo “New Horizons”. |
